Episode 3.23

Congratulations to the Saskatchewan Rush on their first-ever and second straight championship! If that sentence makes sense to you, you are clearly a long-time NLL fan.

We finish off our third season discussing the Rush victory over the Buffalo Bandits and how neither Anthony Cosmo nor Troy Cordingley deserve to be fired. In addition, Tyler talks about the NCAA finals, and congratulations to Tyler as the high school team he coaches won the Washington State championships!

That will do it for season three of Addicted to Lacrosse. If you have any comments, questions, or suggestions for next season, please let us know via email at feedback@addictedtolacrosse.com, on our Facebook page, or on Twitter at @LaxPodcast. We love hearing from you!

See you next season!

Episode 3.22

Just Melissa and Graeme for this one as Tyler was flying home from Philly. When he found that the NLL finals were not in fact taking place there, he had to settle for some NCAA lacrosse, which he will hopefully tell us about next week.

Only one game to talk about but wow, was it ever an exciting game! Great goaltending, great defense, some great goals, very loud fans, it was a lot of fun to watch. We also talked about the oldest players in the league and how they are distributed among the teams. Hint: unfairly. The Rock have 8 of the top 20 while the Roughnecks, Swarm, and Rush have none. Could this have played a part in the Rock’s injury problems this year? Probably. Could it mean big roster changes in the off-season? We’ll have to wait and see on that one.

Episode 3.21

The finals are set! Only two games to talk about but they were both interesting. Graeme & Melissa also discussed the new video streaming service and how we hope it will return next season (even if we have to pay for it), as well as various forms of bias – ref’s biases against teams and players, as well as fan’s confirmation bias when talking about ref’s biases. We also decided once and for all whether the 3-game series or mini-game is good for the NLL.

Episode 3.20

Only Tyler and Graeme this week. The Rock give John Lovell the summer off… and next winter as well. We give kudos to NLL TV, the Rush and Roughnecks game is close until it’s not, and the Bandits dominate the Black Wolves. And Brodie Merrill scores a crazy one in the MLL.

Episode 3.19

Just Melissa and Graeme this week. We talked about the new video streaming provider the NLL is using in the playoffs, potentially as a trial for the 2017 season. We’re pretty excited about it…

Speaking of exciting, we had two very exciting OT games in the first round of the playoffs. Melissa recommends that if you can find a way to watch the Calgary / Colorado game, you really should.

Episode 3.18

Our final episode of the regular season feature not only the three regular hosts but a special guest appearance from Tyler’s cat! Lots to talk about: a bunch of new records were set this past weekend, Toronto and Vancouver had the same season, six games to talk about though most of us didn’t see most of them, we make our picks for some of the major awards, and our predictions for the first round of the playoffs.

Episode 3.17

We had 2½ hosts in this episode. Melissa and Graeme were there and Tyler was also there until we started talking about bad internet feeds and his decided to stop playing along. We discussed the Rock’s injury problem and how it was bad enough in one game that they had to dress an injured player, and in a related story, the Rock may lose both Josh Sanderson and Colin Doyle in the off-season.

The Black Wolves demolish the Swarm but only in one quarter, the Bandits take out the Knighthawks but almost didn’t, the Rock kept the Mammoth to only 10 goals but couldn’t score, and for the second straight week, the Stealth won when they needed to.

Episode 3.16

Just Melissa and Graeme for this one. Three teams could have been eliminated this weekend, but only one was, and they put up a pretty good fight. Graeme disses Rory Smith and then says he’s sorry. Plus: everyone’s a Rock fan, now that they’re eliminated!

Episode 3.15

The gang’s all back! We covered the playoff situation – who’s in, who’s out (nobody yet), and who may be in. There’s been some talk that Shawn Evans is the real MVP despite Dhane Smith’s numbers, so we address that as well.

Episode 3.14

It’s Episode number π! Yes, we’re all geeks.

Just Melissa and Graeme this week, but we had a good conversation about the Buque / Leung play, and how the league may not have had much of a choice in ruling the hit legal. We also talked about the dropping attendance throughout the league, and wondered if that’s related to the hitting / violence in the game, or possibly with the speed of the game itself. But we’re also thrilled with the increasing attendance in Saskatchewan.

And we talked a little about the games of the week, particularly the “Battle of the Basement”, Toronto’s win in Vancouver.

Here are the pictures Melissa took at the Pepsi Center last weekend, showing a few more empty seats than one might expect from a game with an announced attendance of 14,127.
